The most common cosmetic dermal fillers are Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvéderm®. These fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid-a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Dermal fillers are used to replace lost volume and restore youthful contours to the skin. They smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and are most commonly used in the nasolabial folds, marinette lines, and frown lines. Juvéderm® and Restylane® may also be used in the lips to improve shape or add volume. The dermal filler used is dependent upon the depth, or severity, of the wrinkle being treated and also the area being injected.
