Perlane is the "sister" product of the dermal filler Restylane. They're manufactured and marketed by the same company, Medicis Aesthetics Inc. They also contain the same biocompatible hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar that binds with water to enhance your skin's fullness and elasticity.
The difference between the two fillers is in the size of the hyaluronic particles. Those in Perlane are slightly larger. For that reason, Perlane tends to be used for deeper, larger facial wrinkles and creases.
How does it work? Perlane is especially effective at improving the large nasolabial folds between the nose and the mouth and the "worry" lines that can become an unwelcomed permanent fixture on the forehead. The filler is also used to enhance the volume and size of lips.

Is it safe? Because of Perlane's biocompatibility, you won't need an allergy test prior to treatment. As with all dermal fillers, Perlane is injected under the skin with an ultrafine needle. To minimize any discomfort, your physician may recommend (or you can request) a topical anesthetic, which will numb your skin. The entire procedure usually takes less than half an hour.
Following the injection, some swelling and redness may occur as well as some associated pain. This typically doesn't last longer than a week. A rare side effect is the appearance of red bumps around the injection site. Should any side effects persist, call your doctor.
If you have herpes, the injections may trigger a flare-up, so be sure to let your doctor know if you're prone to such outbreaks. Also if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or on blood thinners, you shouldn't have Perlane injected.
How long does it take? Treatment with Perlane dermal filler is so simple and convenient, It can be performed during a lunch hour. You'll see the results right away - and these results may last up to a year or more for many patients. The long-lasting effects of Perlane dermal filler can reduce the need for retreatment, which saves you time and money compared with other fillers.
Is there any downtime? Individuals may return to routine activity right away. There may be some tenderness at the injection site and, rarely, slight bruising.
